Joint USDA Economists Group/C-FARE Seminar

International Commodity Price Volatility and Risks

Date: Monday, February 11, 2013
Time: 12:00 to 2:00 pm
Place: Whitten Building, Room 107-A (USDA Press Room)

Overview:
The rapid increases and wide fluctuations in commodity prices (as measured by several agencies which monitor commodity prices, including the World Bank) signify numerous food security and political risks. In response, the United Nations (UN) passed Resolution 66/188 in 2011, which seeks to improve the regulation and function of commodity markets. Participants will discuss the recent history and sources of this volatility as well as policy implications for commodity markets.
